Getting involved in politics…once again

Yesterday my mother called me up in the middle of the day. She’s been taking nursing classes with my sister through Glendale Community College and her usual class days are Friday and Saturday. Although she’s semi-retired, she’s still looking for a career. My mother called me as she was on her way home from class to remind me that there was a meeting of a new Democratic club in Surprise on Saturday afternoon. I had told her that I would attend the meeting with her, but at that point given that it was 150-degrees outside and about 78 inside (which seems warm every season except for Summer), I wasn’t too keen about going outside.

But I got up and went to the meeting. My mom was intent on being a part of the board for the new group and really wanted me there so that I could nominate her. Being the good son that I was, I went to support her. More...

Do not boycott the Olympics!

I love the Olympics. I love the feeling of excitement as the Olympics get closer. I'm a huge fan of the Summer Olympics, although I admit to religiously watching the Winter Olympics too. Some day, I will figure out why curling is a sport!

My original plan four years ago was to save up and be in China for the next three weeks for the Olympics. Like all best intended plans, it didn't actually happen. (But I'll make it to the next Olympics). What I love about the Olympics is that despite all that goes on in the world that isn't necessarily good or productive, all countries, whether friends or enemies, can put our animosity to the side for sixteen days of friendly sport and competition, and it's allowable for each other to show pride in our respective countries, and share in the moments of pride for those from other countries.
